The Position
Information Technology (IT) Technicians install, configure, monitor, and maintain networks and monitor and maintain help desk user support or mainframe and server operations.
****** This is a part-time position at 53% in the Department of Art at the University of Nevada Reno, and is located in Reno, NV. This position will be responsible for the maintenance and monitoring of all equipment related to teaching and research in the Digital Media Studio, Department of Art, including: the LAN, all software, desktop systems, networking, laser and inkjet printers, scanners, digital video cameras, digital photographic cameras, data projectors, & audio systems. Other duties will include: maintaining and facilitating electronic key code access system for Media Laboratories; purchasing and upkeep of all inventory necessary for the daily operation of the labs; maintaining, developing and updating the Department of Art website as needed; and recruiting, training and supervising student workers.
****** The position will work Monday - Friday about 21 hrs a week, and will have a variable work schedule, depending on the needs of the faculty and students. There are benefits afforded this position. Per NV State Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of one day per month (part-time prorated) through June 30, 2011. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of IT work experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of network workstation hardware and software; OR one year of relevant experience as an IT Technician IV in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Special Requirements
    Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires two years of IT work experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of network operating systems/work group operating systems.
    Requires experience diagnosing and repairing hardware problems, and upgrading hardware.
    Requires experience diagnosing and repairing software problems, installing software updates or installing and testing new software.
    Requires working knowledge of Macintosh-based graphic, web, video and audio processing applications: installation, maintenance, configuration, etc.
    Requires knowledge and experience in the field of experimental digital art research and education.
    Abilities with interactive processing and/or game design a plus.
