The Position
Program Officers administer a program or major component of a program by planning, coordinating and managing services and activities in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements and established program performance standards and objectives.
The University of Nevada, Reno, Fire Science Academy is recruiting for a full-time position in CARLIN, Nevada. This position is assigned to the Marketing Department and is responsible for managing aspects of the Fire Science Academy Financial Sustainability Plan, specifically donor/sponsor activities and reporting. The incumbent will work directly with FSA management to help identify sponsorship and equipment needs and will solicit sponsorship opportunities in conjunction with the FSA Sponsorship Coordinator. Additionally, the position will work directly with clients and prospective clients to market and advertise FSA courses, events, and trade shows. In conjunction with the Marketing Manager the incumbent will identify and execute the overall marketing plan. Responsibilities include negotiating and placing print advertising in national and international publications, monitoring and tracking direct mail marketing programs, initiating e-mail marketing programs using the FSA contact database, identifying key trade shows to exhibit FSA services, developing and maintaining FSA sales collateral material, soliciting program feedback and assessing program success, communicating student needs to FSA management, contributing and updating website content, and other related duties. Individuals with fire/emergency management are encouraged to apply.
The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. However, flexible work hours are required during special project and event activities, including weekends and holidays. Applicants with the following experience are encouraged to apply: A) fire science or related industry experience; B) web based marketing including the use of social networks, blogs, and electronic surveys. Relevant experience should be outlined in the applicant profile. This position is contingent upon funding and does not provide lay-off rights. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from an accredited four year college or university in public administration or a related field; OR graduation from high school or the equivalent and four years of previous experience either performing or assisting in the planning, coordinating or administering of a program; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Print Materials: This position requires creating information pieces such as newsletters, brochures & flyers.
    Flexible Work Hours: This position may require flexible work hours, including weekends and holidays.
    Driver's License: A valid Nevada driver's license is required within 30 days of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    Geographic Location: This position is located in the rural community of Carlin, Nevada. Carlin, Nevada is located 270 miles (4.25 hours) east of Reno, Nevada, and 450 miles (7.5 hours) north of Las Vegas, Nevada.
    Self-Funded, No Lay-Off Rights: This position is contingent upon funding and does not provide lay-off rights.
The Examination
