APPROXIMATE ANNUAL SALARY -  $38,523.60 to  $56,626.56  PAY GRADE: 31
The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Equipment Mechanics maintain, repair, and modify fleet equipment comprised of a variety of light, medium, and heavy automotive and maintenance equipment, landscape equipment, computerized testing equipment, and diesel-fueled electric power generators. 
This full-time position is located at the University of Nevada, Reno Fire Science Academy in CARLIN, Nevada. This position will maintain and repair specialized mechanical equipment and machinery; determine the cause and extent of component or system failure; repair, replace or fabricate and install parts, components and special use items. The position will also maintain, repair and overhaul a variety of non-automotive mechanical equipment by inspecting components for proper operation; scheduling and performing preventative maintenance; troubleshooting, repairing and overhauling components; and performing related duties. Applicants must have the ability to read, interpret and fabricate from repair orders, service and operating systems manuals, blueprints and drawings. Applicants must have experience within the last 5 years working in an INDUSTRIAL PROCESSING FACILITY such as a mill, refinery or chemical plant which includes pipe fabrication and welding relating to piping and valve systems. A welding demonstration will be required of the final candidates.
The work schedule varies, includes weekends, and is subject to 24/7 call-out duty. A valid Nevada driver's license is required within 30 days of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. Successful completion of an American Welding Society test is required within 6 months of employment and as a condition of continued employment. Applicants must indicate their availability to work on-site at the Fire Science Academy in the geographic area of Carlin, Nevada. NOTICE: Per Nevada Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of one day per month through June 30, 2011.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Completion of a recognized automotive/equipment repair apprenticeship program; OR completion of the Equipment Mechanic-In-Training program in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
    Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
Additional Position Criteria
    Applicants must have experience reading, interpreting and fabricating from repair orders, service and operating systems manuals, blueprints and drawings.
    Applicants must have pipe fabrication and welding experience (in an industrial processing facility) repairing and maintaining piping and valve systems.
    Applicants must have experience with one or more of the following mechanical systems: high flow water; pumps; diesel and electrical motors and gear drives; air compressors; clarifiers; hazardous chemical off loading, dispensing and storage equipment.
    A valid Nevada driver's license is required within 30 days of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.
    Successful completion of an American Welding Society test is required within 6 months of employment and as a condition of continued employment.
    Applicants must be available to work weekends and are subject to call-out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
    This position is located on-site at the Fire Science Academy in the rural geographical vicinity of Carlin, Nevada.
