The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

Information Technology (IT) Professionals analyze, develop, implement, maintain, and modify computer operations, systems, networks, databases, applications, and/or information security. Incumbents may perform duties in one or more IT specialization areas depending on the needs of the agency.
Incumbents perform supervisory duties and manage projects of varying size, scope, and impact to agency operations to include serving as the project leader; planning, organizing, and directing project activities; resolving design conflicts; data administration; resource allocation; contract negotiation; timeline development; critical path tracking; justifying the need for additional resources; and coordination with other work units within and outside the organization as assigned. Non-supervisory positions must spend the preponderance of their time performing the most advanced professional work in project management and oversight or technology planning and consultation.
The Department of Public Safety (DPS) Technology Bureau supports multiple DPS divisions and external agencies in Nevada and nationwide, by providing accurate, real-time information critical to the general welfare and safety of the public and law enforcement personnel. Supported applications include: Wants/Warrants, Sex Offenders, Parole and Probation systems including Dangerous Offender Notifications, Protection Orders, and Criminal History.
This position provides Project Oversight for all DPS IT projects. In addition, this position manages IT projects such as the DPS Disaster Recovery and Infrastructure Project (DR/IP). Finally, this position directly supervises all DPS IT Project Managers, and coordinates the efforts of all contract and external project managers for DPS IT projects.
As a condition of employment, all new hires to the Department will be required to
sign an overtime/comp time agreement indicating their willingness to accept comp time in lieu of paid overtime when requested.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science, management information systems, or closely related field and five years of progressively responsible professional IT experience relevant to the duties of the position which may include systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analysis and development, and/or information security, two years of which were at the advanced journey level or in a supervisory or project management capacity; OR bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science,management information systems, or closely related field and five years of progressively responsible professional IT experience which may include systems administration, network administration, database administration, applications analysis and development, and/or information security, relevant to the duties of the position, two years of which were at the journey level in information security; OR two years of relevant experience as an IT Professional III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This position is subject to call-out or call-back.
Statewide travel is required.
Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required.
A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
Additional Position Criteria
Applicants must be willing to work standby, carry the standby cellular phone for evening and weekend system troubleshooting and adhere to standby procedures.
Experience in IT project management and oversight.
Experience analyzing user requirements & business processes, as well as writing documentation on IT projects.
Experience in technology procurement, including cost justification and vendor contract development and negotiation.
The Examination

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
