The salary range indicated in this announcement is based on the Employee/Employer retirement compensation schedule. An employer-only option is available at a reduced salary range. Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.
This position is with the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at the University of Nevada Reno, located on the Reno Campus.
This position functions as the front desk person, answering phones and greeting visitors, responding to questions and requests for information in both English and Spanish. The incumbent provides administrative support to include composing correspondence in both English and Spanish from notes, rough drafts, and verbal instructions; assists with event planning; schedules rooms and equipment for classes, meetings, workshops etc; performs Internet data searches; creates and maintains files; functions as a resource for faculty on UNR, state, and departmental policies & procedures. This position assists graduate advisors with graduate student applications for admission and assistantship appointments; logs and processes forms; composes routine correspondence in English and Spanish; interacts with prospective students providing information and answering questions. This position makes travel and accommodation arrangements, and processes travel forms. The incumbent researches budget histories, trends and requirements in support of supervisor. Analyzes budgets and performs account reconciliations. Functions a search coordinator to include posting advertisements, coordinating search committees, compiling data, and setting up interviews.
The work schedule for this position is Monday - Friday 12:45 to 5:00pm, may be subject to change based on needs of the department.
Per NV State Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of one day per month (part-time prorated) through June 30, 2011.
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clerical and administrative support experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records and files; preparing a variety of materials using a personal computer or word processor; assisting customers in completing forms and applications; and/or performing secretarial duties in support of professional staff; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements
A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
Experience with CAIS and Astra scheduling strongly preferred.
This is a part-time position, working 21.2 hrs per week.
Requires bilingual skills in English/Spanish.
Requires proficiency at the intermediate level in MS Suite (Word, Excel, Access & Outlook).
The Examination
