The Position
Wildlife Staff Specialists perform program planning, analysis and evaluation; draft proposed legislation, policies, procedures and regulations related to wildlife management programs and activities throughout the State.
Position will provide management and coordination for the Nevada Partners for Conservation and Development (NPCD) to restore sagebrush communities that have been degraded by land use, infested with noxious/invasive plants or damaged by wildfire. This is a leadership position that will be acting as liaison with all state and federal land management agencies that have responsibilities in great basin ecosystems of Nevada such as Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, State Forestry, Department of Agriculture, Bureau of Land Management, US Forest Service, US Park Service, Natural Resources Conservation Service, UNR, functional Divisions within the Nevada of Department of Wildlife, private stakeholders, County Game Boards and the Nevada Board of Wildlife Commissioners and a variety of national and state conservation organizations, as well as the Congressional Delegations and State Legislators. Coordination and consultations required include States included within the Sagebrush ecosystem. The focus is on restoration of Nevada?s sagebrush ecosystem. Duties require decisions that have direct and significant impact on program progress and resources. Coordination and communication with executives, organization officials and regulatory representatives of the cooperating agencies is also required for the purpose of negotiating an approach and solutions to major resource issues facing the sagebrush ecosystem and specifically the Great Basin of Nevada. This will also involve coordinating the developing policies and procedures necessary to operate the Nevada Partners for Conservation and Development. Work is performed independently within the framework of department policies and all applicable laws, regulations and statutory requirements; project management includes determining work priorities, standards, techniques and guidelines; when standards and techniques are not adequate or applicable, judgment and ingenuity must be exercised.
Degrees in natural resource management and related environmental science will be considered related to wildlife and range management and biology. Experience in invasive and/or noxious plant control will be accepted toward the minimum qualifications. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in wildlife management, biology or closely related field and four years of professional experience that included organizing, planning and completing wildlife management studies, writing technical reports and preparing species or land use management plans and recommendations; OR one year as a Biologist III in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The Examination

WILDLIFE STAFF SPECIALIST (01.712) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

6) Describe your experience administering, monitoring and maintaining federal grants in the following areas: 1) writing project agreements and grants 2) working with grant administrators 3) monitoring cost accounting system and reports.
7) Describe your experience developing databases.
8) Describe your experience writing and reviewing technical reports.
9) Describe your experience developing and administering contracts.
10) Describe your experience developing and conducting program evaluations.
