Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position
Heating/Ventilation/Air Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVACR) Specialist's perform skilled work in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.
The incumbent maintains, repairs, installs, and operates heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems and refrigeration equipment while acting as the lead with work crews. Duties include, but are not limited to the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment rated up to 480 volt, 3 phase; servicing and repairing all refrigeration systems, i.e. walk-in coolers, reach in coolers, refrigerators, air conditioning systems, and chillers; maintaining the operations of air handlers for optimum performance; maintaining and repairing all boiler systems; troubleshooting controls related to industry and repairing and/or replacing as needed; responsible for proper chemical treatment in both open and closed loop systems; and maintaining current records and logs on required equipment as well as the proper documentation of EPA refrigerant records.

To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Completion of a recognized HVACR apprenticeship program followed by one year of journey level experience in the installation, operation, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment; OR one year of experience as a HVACR Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
    Journey level experience is gained after the completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or after four years of skilled work in a trade under the supervision of a journey level trades worker.
Skills Required
    A pre-employment criminal history check is required of the chosen applicant.
    A valid Nevada class C driver's license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment
    As a contingency of employment, the chosen candidate must receive Asbestos Abatement Certification within one year of their hire date.
    Applicants must be familiar with commercial water chillers and associated equipment. This experience must be detailed on your application materials.
    CFC Certification, 40 CFR Part 82, Type Universal is required. A copy of this certificate MUST be attached your application.

HVACR SPECIALIST 2 (09.408) Training and Experience Exam
The exam will consist of a rating of training and experience weighted 100%. It is essential that applications include extensively detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. Your score will be based on the information provided in your application and your responses to the questions asked below. If there are several parts to a question, answer each part separately. Along with each answer, identify the position(s) and/or training (as described in your application) where you gained the background asked for in the question. Absence of experience/training asked for in a question is not necessarily disqualifying. Failure to answer the questions will result in a score based solely on the application.

Qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
1) Describe your experience in maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing centrifugal chillers.
2) Describe your experience in air conditioning/refrigeration work for large commercial facilities (60,000 sq. ft)
3) Describe your experience in troubleshooting and repairing HV/AC control systems.
4) Describe your experience with reading building blueprints and equipment schematics to repair and/or replace air conditioning/refrigeration systems.
5) Describe your experience with Building Automation Control (electric/pneumatic).
6) Describe your experience with preventive maintenance scheduling for a large commercial facility (60,000 sq. ft.)
7) Describe your experience in keeping refrigerant inventory records to meet federal requirements.
8) Describe your experience with the completion of training or apprenticeship programs in HVACR. Please attach copies of education and training certificates relating to HVACR.
