The Position
Administrative Assistants perform a broad variety of clerical, secretarial and administrative support duties in an assigned agency, program or other work unit within State government and the Nevada System of Higher Education.
Western Nevada College is recruiting for two part-time Administrative Assistant 2's to work in Fallon for the Specialty Crop Institute. The incumbent will provide administrative and clerical support to the Project Director including event and workshop coordination; marketing and promotional opportunities; database maintenance; reports; maintaining financial records; and monitoring and providing updates on subgrants.
The typical work schedule is varied with occasional weekend and evening work; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. Both positions do not provide lay-off rights and are contingent upon funding. One position is benefited (0.55 FTE) and one is non-benefited (0.45 FTE). Pursuant to Nevada Legislature, State of Nevada Classified employees are subject to a mandatory unpaid furlough requirement of six days (part-time prorated) per fiscal year effective July 1, 2011. To Qualify:
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)
    Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of clerical and administrative support experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintaining records and files; preparing a variety of materials using a personal computer or word processor; assisting customers in completing forms and applications; and/or performing secretarial duties in support of professional staff; OR one year of experience as an Administrative Assistant I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
    As part of the hiring process, applicants for positions in the Nevada System of Higher Education may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform job-related tasks.
Special Requirements
    A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
Additional Position Criteria
    This position requires a current Driver's License upon employment and for continued employment.
    This position is a part-time position and requires the incumbent to work occasional weekends and evenings.
    This position is located in Fallon, NV and requires the incumbent to travel and work outdoors in inclement weather.
    This position requires knowledge of the basic principles and practices of Nevada small farm agriculture.
    This position requires experience with work related event planning and coordination.
    This position does not provide lay-off rights and is contingent upon funding.
The Examination

CLERICAL SUPPORT EXAM
The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.
