Registered Nurses in this series conduct inspections of health care facilities and services such as hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, inmate medical care in prisons and transitional living facilities, intermediate care facilities, home health agencies, health care referral agencies, community triage centers, facilities for refractive laser surgery, ambulatory surgical centers, facilities for treatment of irreversible renal disease, independent physician offices, rural health clinics, hospices, comprehensive outpatient rehabilitative facilities, outpatient physical therapy facilities, adult day care and group care facilities, alcohol and drug abuse treatment centers and half-way houses, obstetrical centers, independent centers for emergency medical care, rehabilitation clinics, occupational and physical therapists, and other facilities and practitioners as directed. Examples of areas for inspection include health care services; policies and procedures regarding admission, discharge, and resident rights; and life safety code compliance.
This position resides in the Division of Public and Behavioral Health and will be located either in Carson City or Las Vegas, depending on where the chosen candidate resides. The selected applicant will participate in the pre-inspection activities for federal certification and compliance inspections of home health agencies and skilled nursing facilities. Incumbent will evaluate compliance with standards, State and Federal statutes and regulations through the review of reports and data available on facility compliance with Minimum Data Set (MDS) for skilled nursing facility residents, and Outcome Assessment Information Set (OASIS) for home health agency patient data. This position is responsible for summarizing findings and preparing formal inspection/training reports; serving as a member of Public and Behavioral Health committees on special projects as requested by management; serving as a resource for and providing information and education to advisory committees, community members (consumers), facility administrators and personnel, to improve the quality of care and services, and assure regulatory compliance. The incumbent will establish and maintain an effective working relationship and positive communication with a variety of individuals and groups as well as collaborate with sister state agencies and departments. This position requires a driver's license and the ability to travel to facilities throughout Nevada as needed to conduct inspections using a personal vehicle. The incumbent must also be able to travel outside of Nevada for training and/or conferences as needed.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, licensure as a Registered Nurse, two years of professional nursing experience involving direct patient care, and one year of professional experience as an inspector or surveyor in a health-related accrediting organization or in a state or federal regulatory compliance program which involved the inspection, licensing, or complaint investigation of health care or child care facilities to determine compliance with state or federal laws and regulations; OR bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, licensure as a Registered Nurse, two years of professional nursing experience involving direct patient care, and two years of professional health administration experience, including supervisory, administrative, inspection or regulatory responsibilities; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Health Facilities Inspector I - RN in Nevada State service. |

Licensure as a Registered Nurse is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of employment. Out-of-state applicants must have a temporary license issued by the Nevada State Board of Nursing at the time of appointment. |
