Developmental Specialists provide individual and group clinical, developmental and support services for individuals of all ages who have, or who may be at risk for, developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or related conditions, and social, emotional, and/or behavioral disorders.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
Depending on the location of the most qualified applicant this position will be located in Northern Nevada. This position will serve as a first line supervisor for up to eight Psychiatric Caseworkers I-II positions assigned to the DCFS - Wraparound in Nevada (WIN) Rural program. The DCFS-WIN Rural work stations are located in various areas in Northern Nevada, including Elko, Ely, Winnemucca, Fallon, Fernley, Carson City, and Reno. WIN provides services for children/adolescents (who may be in child welfare custody) and their families. The position will be responsible for ensuring that Psychiatric Caseworkers under their supervision implement a family centered and community based clinical program utilizing the wraparound service delivery model. The position will provide consultation to staff and clients regarding informal client and family support systems and solution based intervention techniques. The position will assign and review work, provide training, evaluate performance and counsel and discipline staff as appropriate. The position will have responsibility for ensuring all documentation is in compliance with established laws, regulations, policies and requirements for agency reimbursement including billing forms. The position will independently oversee and implement the activities of the WIN program. The position may develop and coordinate formal training workshops and community education forums. The position may manage financial resources and facilities to ensure efficient operations and compliance with budgetary limitations.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood, special education, human growth and development, psychology, counseling, social work or a closely related field and two years of professional experience providing developmental, special education, intervention or treatment-oriented services for individuals who have or may be at risk for developmental delays, developmental disabilities, intellectual disabilities or related conditions; OR an equivalent combination of education above the bachelor's degree level and experience as described above; OR one year of experience as a Developmental Specialist II in Nevada State service. |

A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment. |

Applicants must meet federal guidelines for Qualified Mental Retardation Professional designation at the time of appointment. |

Working evenings, weekends, and/or holidays is required. |

A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. |

Incumbents must possess or obtain an endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education issued by the Nevada Department of Education within three years of appointment. (This license requirement applies only to those positions directly involved with children from birth to eight years of age with developmental delays.) |

This position may be required to travel at least 50 percent of the time. |
