Highway Equipment Mechanics maintain, repair, and modify medium (GVWR 10,500-26,000 lbs.) and heavy (GVWR greater than 26,000 lbs.) highway maintenance and construction equipment.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The Nevada Department of Transportation is recruiting to fill the Highway Equipment Mechanic I position in Carson City, Nevada.
The Highway Equipment Mechanic I position is responsible for diagnosing and repairing light- duty, medium-duty, and heavy-duty equipment. This position is responsible for responding to field service calls and improvising as necessary to perform field repairs.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Completion of a recognized automotive/equipment repair apprenticeship program; OR completion of the Equipment Mechanic-in-Training program in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. |

Incumbent is required to furnish their own mechanic's tools. |
|
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances. In addition, federal law requires random testing for controlled substances during employment. |

A valid drivers license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. |
|
A valid Class A or B commercial driver's license is required within six months of employment. |
|
