Mental Health Counselors provide counseling, case management, direct clinical services, community and home based services, and behavioral and human services to mentally ill, developmentally disabled and/or emotionally disturbed clients in an outpatient, residential, community or similar setting.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training. The Division of Child and Family Services (DCFS) is recruiting for a Mental Health Counselor II, within the Child and Adolescent Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT) in Reno. The Mobile Response Team receives, and triages calls from families and the community, responds in teams to children and adolescents in the community presenting with a mental or behavioral health-based crisis. Responses can take place in emergency departments, schools, homes, and other community settings. Clinicians are responsible for completing a semi-structured assessment, providing support, immediate interventions, and create plans jointly with the youth and family to ensure the safety of the youth and to maintain them in their homes, schools, and communities when able.

Teams can remain in place for up to 45 days to provide intensive clinical and case management services to these youth and families. This position will be the clinical lead on the mobile response and stabilization teams and possibly provide clinical support as needed with the specialized intensive mobile crisis engagement team. MCRT developed two specialized programs to provide more intensive in-home services: Engagement Team and the Intensive Step-Down Team. The overall goal for both the ET and ISD Team is to reduce the use of higher levels of care by helping youth and families develop stability in the home. ET/ISD Teams can work with families for up to 90 days. ET-ISD families often have increased needs requiring multiple community supports.
